Functional

Restoration

LOSS AND GAIN

At Pro Medical, we know life sometimes throws you curve balls.Extensive surgery or a serious injury can result in a loss of mobility, a decreased active lifestyle, or simply being unable to perform daily tasks robbing you of independence. You may not only lose physical mobility, but experience a loss of confidence, or motivation.Pro Medical Functional Restoration and Retraining program helps patients regain independence and reduce the risk of flare up in symptoms. Therapies are focused on exercises and education to help restore function and allow patients to resume normal activities at home, at work or on the playing field. Our therapists closely monitor our client’s progress as personal rehabilitation benchmarks are established and achieved through a four step process:

  1. Measuring the individual’s function and limiting factor
  2. Identifying the physical demands required to restore function
  3. Developing a plan of care to achieve realistic functional goals
  4. Performing therapeutic activities

RESTORATION THROUGH RETRAINING

The Pro Medical staff knows the road to restoration isn’t always easy. It requires functional activities (repetitive exercises or dynamic activities) to improve balance, coordination, and building strength in multiple joints to obtain multi-directional movement.Pro Medical Functional Restoration includes these key activities:

  • Physioball training and stabilization
  • Plyometrics
  • Posture activities and body mechanics
  • Step down, squats, lifting, and overhead reaching

Aquatic

Programs

Our HydroWorx pools are a great way to rest and rehab your overused muscles or injuries while continuing to workout at an intense level. Some people prefer to supplement their land-based exercises with workouts in a Hydroworx pool since exercising in water reduces the stress on joints and muscles that happens with land-based exercises.

The buoyancy of water allows you to continue running on the underwater treadmill or do exercises against the resistance jets. This enables you to maintain your fitness level even when your muscles are fatigued or injured.

After any type of surgery, increasing mobility is a top priority. Stiffness and loss of flexibility can quickly result from lack of use. Our fully adjustable resistance jets allow you to perform multiple activities at different intensity levels, increasing mobility in joints after surgery. Thus allowing you to work at your comfort level while keeping active.

Aquatic therapy places you ahead of the game. The weightlessness of the water reduces stress on joints and muscles, which allows rehabilitation to begin much sooner than on land. The treadmill increases from 0 to 7.5 mph in .2 mph increments so you may maintain an individualized, comfortable pace while receiving all of the health benefits of exercise. In addition, walking in water eliminates the fear of falling and/or reinjury.

The variability in the depth of the water can significantly decrease stress on joints. When standing chest high, the buoyancy of the water eliminates 80% of total body weight, which immediately reduces tension and stress on the body. With multiple water depths, different intensity levels can be created and used for strengthening and rehab. The effects of water increase flexibility without re-injuring joints.

Work

Hardening / Conditioning

Work Hardening (Work Conditioning) is an interdisciplinary, individualized, job specific program of activity with the goal of returning to work. Work Hardening programs use real or simulated work tasks and progressively graded conditioning exercises that are based on the individual’s measured tolerances.

Work hardening provides a transition between acute care and successful return to work and is designed to improve the biomechanical, neuromuscular, cardiovascular and psychosocial functioning of the worker.

Work Conditioning Programs are designed to more closely correlate treatment to the physical demand levels of the injured worker’s job. Recreating this environment in a therapeutic setting has proven to be an effective tool for reducing re-injury.

Functional Capacity

Evaluation

Pro Medical offers Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) –

This is an all-encompassing evaluation to determine fully the ability of an individual to return to work after an extended period of medical leave.

An FCE is required by insurers if applies for disability payments or a disability pension in the case of permanent disability.
